It strips all the hard work from a work of art, especially when that work of art is actually pretty good on it's own. I don't think it's ever been used with positive connotation. etc.I view the word "ripoff" as a very degrading term.
This is not an homage, this is a blatant rip-off.Įven little details like boss designs have a clear cuphead inspiration - a mad woman with a moon, the pirateship, a Grim Matchstick clone being in the background of the Cerberus fight, the Octopus holding several notable props from World 3 Cuphead bosses, the Faun in the Fonz level being a near identical copy of a Cuphead enemy, etc.

The gameplay is identical (and by the way neither game is a side-scrolling shoot 'em up - they are both multi-phase boss rush games) down to the point where the dash animation looks like they traced over the cuphead one and swapped the model. The mix clearly does not work (the characters are witches with a black cat riding brooms and using portals to go into fantasy worlds - Big Band Jazz Music it is), and the animation is a step below.
